Protect Your Energy

Today we’re diving into the protection of our personal energy and the energy of our living and home spaces.

This is something that has been on my heart for a bit. So many of us give away our energy like it’s candy at a 4th of July parade. When we do this it leaves us depleted and drained and we aren’t able to thrive in our lives.

Your energy is sacred to you and must be honored and protected. We do not mess with the energy, ever!

What are a few ways for you to own that energy of yours and protect it?

The Basics

We all have an energy field around each of us. You may have heard this referred to as your aura or energetic field. This needs to be a strong shield to protect you from the negative energies of others. A strong protective field around us gives us an environment that we can thrive in.

This doesn’t mean we should bubble ourselves off from the world, we just need to be protective of our energies. When we are protected, it makes it much easier for our bodies to flow and transform and vibrate at a higher frequency. All of these things in sync means we are in an optimal state of health, and that’s the goal. By creating as much flow in the body as we possibly can, all of our body systems will function in perfect unison and we can live in our true and authentic selves.

When our energy isn’t protected, it’s like we’re trying to carry everyone else’s stuff around everywhere we go. We are a sponge that is full of water, but the water is the cold, dirty dishwater that was left in the sink last night. Gross, right? Do you really want to be that sponge?

How Does Energy Get Out of Whack?

We are constantly surrounded by energy, whether we know it or not. Since energy doesn’t have a true physical shape, we don’t actually have to physically be with someone to absorb theirs and be affected by it. Energy has no time or space. Sit with that a second.

Think about the interactions you have all day long and how your sacred energy fields are potentially getting clogged. You can begin by thinking about all the people you have an actual interaction with – co-workers, the mailman, a grocery store clerk, people in your yoga class ... the list goes on and on. When these surrounding people have negative energy, they try to steal your positive energy away from you. Maybe you’ve heard the term “energy vampire”? These are the people that drain you.

The energy draining doesn’t stop there. Outside of face-to-face interactions, let’s think about our digital world. Social media, text messages, emails, TV … Believe it or not, you absorb and attract energy from all of those sources, too.

Remember that dirty dishwater sponge? That’s you after a full day of soaking up these icky energies. And once all of the energies from all of these sources attach to us, where do you think it goes? That’s right, into our homes. These people who offloaded their bad energies on you during the day don’t actually have to be in your space for your space to get out of whack. (Although, be aware that other people physically in your space is also a surefire way that bad vibes can enter your home.)

This revelation may have you feeling a little overwhelmed. It’s ok. I’m about to give you some of the top ways I keep myself, my family and my home sacred and full of love and positive energy.

Let’s start by taking a minute to close your eyes, take several deep breaths in and out and allow yourself to truly feel all of that energy that is on you and around you. Visualize all of that lingering energy from those interactions that just needs to go. It will be a lot easier for you to let it all go if you can feel where it is. Don’t worry about the exact person or place, just allow yourself to feel it.

Now it’s time for some cleaning!

I like to combine a few different practices and ancient ways to clear and project:

1 - Palo santo and sage: These two different materials have been used by indigenous tribes for centuries as a way to cleanse and purify objects and spaces from what they called “evil spirits.”   You, too, can use them.

Palo santo is a wood that comes from the palo santo trees in South America. Its name means “holy wood.” It has a calming and relaxing scent that will ground you and clear your space at the same time.

Sage is used to clear and elevate spaces in many of the same ways as palo santo, but the sage plant is what has been most widely used amongst the Native Americans of North America.

I feel both are super effective, but I prefer palo santo because it has a sweeter, gentler smell than sage. I use both, but palo santo is my go-to. You will have a favorite, too.

There are lots of different theories on how to use these tools and you will probably find information on the “wrong” and “right” ways. Personally, I just like to light it up and wave it around with a set intention to cleanse my spaces. You can do this in your house or around your body. I usually play music and close my eyes and dance around like a goddess under the moonlight. Oh wait, I AM a goddess owning her space and her power!

My point is: have fun with it.

You can purchase either one at many stores or online. I like to choose brands that are ethically sourced and I always prefer to buy local.

2 - Essential Oils: After I have cleansed, I’m not quite done. I like to diffuse essential oils to supercharge my space! There are many essential oils that are known for their properties of cleansing and keeping spaces clean and cheery.

The most well-known oil for this is Lemongrass. It is referred to as the oil of cleansing. It dispels icky feelings within ourselves and others. You can add a few drops of lemongrass to any mix of other oils and have some fun results. Here are two of my favorite combos:

Combo 1
4 drops Lemongrass
3 drops Elevation

Combo 2
4 drops Lemongrass
3 drop Wild Orange
3 drop Siberian Fir

Lemon, OnGuard, and Lime are also great options to add into cleansing diffuser blends.

If you haven’t jumped on the oil train yet, you can check out doTERRA here. This is the only brand I trust to be effective when truly using oils to filter out the shit that is attached to us.  You might try others but I'm telling you, you will not get the same effects.

To use on yourself, I like a couple dabs of Melaleuca Touch oil on my heart space and forearms each morning to repel the energy vamps and keep them away!

I have countless more tips, ideas, and thoughts on this topic. It’s so near and dear to me that I’ve spent the last several years working with my own energy and that of others to figure out the best ways to protect and keep living in the fullest expression of ourselves. Be on the lookout for more blogs about this in the future as our journey together unravels.

Have you grabbed my coveted Empath Guide yet? It’s right here. Inside I have laid out even more juicy ideas on how to own you and your spaces.

Start with these ideas and do them regularly. I promise you will start to see a difference.

You are a strong and powerful warrior goddess! Project what is yours so you have your sacred space to recharge and just BE.

Love and Light
Katie
