Three Easy Swaps to Ditch the Toxins

Green cleaning and reducing the toxins in our homes is a topic that has been popping up more and more. You head to any local big box retailer, and you will find hundreds of products on the shelves that are touting they are GREEN and NON-TOXIC.

A simple Google search will give you endless articles on the role of toxins in our health. In fact, the overload of toxins in our bodies is one of the three leading root causes of disease and health concerns in our bodies.

Toxic load refers to the chemicals in our body that build up from our environment, processed foods, pesticide use, and personal care products.

The Product Safety Commission tested and found 150 cleaning chemicals linked to ADD, asthma, Cancer, reproductive problems, respiratory problems, and more. Not to mention the role they play in the hormone health in women.

The good news is that many of the chemicals we are exposed to can be prevented with simple swaps.

Here are three very easy ways to ditch your home's toxins for safer alternatives. Many times, these swaps are more effective and very cost-effective, not to mention the benefits you will see in your health when chemicals don't constantly bombard your body.

Swap #1 - Diffuse Essential Oils
Diffusing essential oils instead of burning candles or plugging in a scent warmer is easy, and just a few drops of oil in a room benefits everyone in the home.

Swap #2 - Upgrade Your Cleaning Products with abode or OnGuard
I remember the day clearly when I decided to swap out my household cleaners for more natural options.

I attended a class about the role of household cleaners and toxins in our health. Especially when it came to women's hormones, and I couldn't have them in my house anymore.

I went through my home and boxed up all of my favorites that I thought were "cleaning" my home, and I had TWO big boxes of cleaners. Ouch!

Guess what? I replaced all of them with ONE cleaner, some lemon oils, vinegar, and baking soda. Not only did I feel better about how I was cleaning my home, it was much easier to clean with fewer products and so much cheaper than all the crap I was buying.

Now I clean my entire house with these two cleaners. Not only do I save a lot of $$, but I also know my family and our health is elevated because we removed the chemicals. Plus, when there are only two cleaners, it's easy for my boys to help with the cleaning.

Swap #3 - Give Your Laundry Room and Makeover
Many hidden toxins are lurking in our laundry rooms. We want our clothes to have that fresh smell. But the question is, what is giving our laundry such a fresh scent?

Many times, synthetic chemicals are absorbed into our clothing. Then we put that clothing on and wear it all day long. What does our skin do? It absorbs all the chemicals in the fabric softeners and dryer sheets.

If you have skin sensitivities or some unexplained "angry skin," your laundry room staples could be your culprit.

Let's not forget what happens to the environment when our dryer vents push all that scent out into the air outside our homes.

An easy swap is to opt for unscented laundry detergents and try dryer balls instead of fabric softener sheets.

I like the doTERRA OnGuard Laundry Soap or Abode Pods. I use dryer balls instead of dryer sheets and love putting a few drops of lavender on them for fresh-smelling clothes.
