[a series on detoxing] Part 2: Daily Habits from the Inside Out

It’s here! Part 2 of my easy-peasy DETOX series for you. 

Let’s circle back real quick. Spring has sprung and we’re fully within the season of emergence. You’re probably feeling ready to bloom! But in order to open up fully to the life of abundance that awaits us, we all need to do some pruning - physically and emotionally.  

Part 1 was all about the ritual of a Detox Bath (or shower 🚿). Have you been treating yourself to this regimen? If you missed it or need a refresher on the process, pop on over to the blog

The second important part of our purge focuses on daily habits that will gently cleanse your body from the inside out. 

Reminder: this is a GENTLE detox series. If you’re interested in a more advanced detox, I have a program just for you. It’s a very specific protocol I have followed over the last 8 years whenever I feel like my body needs a little extra detoxification. Most of us are not ready for that yet, especially when we're just beginning our journey. If this all is brand new to you, I don’t recommend diving straight into a 10-day juice cleanse. It'll be too much for your system and you probably won’t like the benefits or results. Is there a time and a place for those types of programs? Absolutely! But what we're talking about this month are gentle ways you can start to cleanse out your life from all angles. 

Stick with me during this gentle series and start making simple swaps. These are just our first steps, and once you've mastered some of the different practices and rituals that I suggest to you, then we'll add on more. 

So let’s jump in! 

My TOP 3 ways to Love Your Body from the Inside Out 

✨ HYDRATION ✨ 

I can't tell you enough the importance of staying hydrated! 

I've worked with thousands of people over the last 10 years with health concerns ranging from insomnia and headaches, to more severe issues. And 9 times out of 10, people are simply critically dehydrated. 

Since our bodies are made up of more than 70% water, drinking enough water every single day is essential for everything from maintaining a healthy weight to energy levels and - you guessed it - FLUSHING OUT TOXINS. (Things like your coffee, tea, and soda don’t count!) 

Remember how we’re trying to bloom like all the gorgeous spring plants? Well just like those plants, our bodies need to be watered. In order to connect with the cosmos and maintain a state of flow, we must be hydrated. 

On the physical side of things, hydrated cells are happy (and healthy) cells. Staying sufficiently hydrated is going to make your skin look better, relieve tummy issues, lubricate and cushion your joints, protect sensitive tissues, and so many more benefits. So how much water do we need to drink anyway? This is always a big question that I get. I recommend this starting point: divide your body weight in half, and consume that many ounces of water per day. That’s right, every single day. If that number scares you, then just start by tacking on an extra 8 ounces per day on top of what you normally drink. 

I don't care what water you drink - bottled, tap, sparkling. Just drink water. 

Normally I chug on good old tap water. But at times when I travel or I can feel the effects of dehydration, I like to buy pH balanced water for that extra oomph. 

Pro Tip → Get yourself something fun to drink your water out of. I love the crazy colors of Yeti tumblers, and most of them come in 28-30oz. sizes. You can even get a silly straw or hip handle! Let me tell you, an investment in that favorite, favorite water container is going to make all the difference. Your health is worth that price tag.  



✨ OILS ✨

OK, so now that you’re a pro hydrator, I want you to try adding in citrus oils to your water. 

Why would we add citrus oils to our water? 
Number One - they add flavor. I've worked with so many people who’ve told me that water just tastes too plain and boring. I don’t want that to be the reason you aren’t getting the hydration you need. Spruce up your sips with a little lime, lemon or wild orange! Make it fun.  

Number Two - they are mood uplifting. Every time you go to take a drink out of this beautiful cup, you are going to get a surge of happiness.

Number Three - they are powerful antioxidants and a rich source of vitamin C. Remember our happy little cells from above? Drinking water with citrus oils helps protect the body’s cells from damage.

Win, win, win! 

✨ SUPPLEMENTS ✨ 

Our filtering organs are SO important. They cleanse our body and get all of our systems moving fast. Let’s look at some of the supplements that are going to help keep our filtering organs doing their job.  

These are my favorites 🠋 

Terrazyme: TerraZyme is a digestive enzyme that helps us break down the foods we eat into a more liquid state that’s easier to digest. This allows our body to absorb the nutrients in our foods a little bit more effectively, and then eventually pass through our intestines and out of our bodies.

Detoxing is not only about cleaning our filtering organs. You might also be feeling clogged in your digestive system or urinary tract. That’s where toxins exit the body, afterall. If toxins become restricted in our systems and can't exit the body through our normal expelling methods (yep, poop and pee) then those nasty little toxins hop over and begin to clog our secondary filtering organs - the lungs, skin and  liver. 

We want to make sure this doesn’t happen by keeping those primary filtering organs working properly. Take TerraZyme every time you eat to help. I like to also take TerraZyme first thing in the morning on an empty stomach because it's going to break down anything that might have gotten stuck in your intestines the day before. 

Fiber: Fiber is a newer product from doTERRA that I absolutely love. Mix a scoop of it with a scoop of your doTERRA greens in a glass of water and drink it sometime during your day. This is going to help support your metabolic processes. The FDA recommends 25–38 grams of dietary fiber every day depending on age, weight, and gender. That’s a LOT of raw vegetables and bowls of oatmeal! doTERRA Fiber is an easy, convenient and delicious way to supplement your fiber intake. 

Zendocrine: Zendocrine is amazing, amazing, amazing at keeping the body filtered out! doTERRA offers two kinds - Zendocrine complex and Zendocrine oil - and their benefits differ just slightly, working in harmony with each other. 

The Zendocrine oil that I hope you’ve been using in your detox baths is going to support, love and nourish your filtering organs including your skin, liver (especially), kidneys and pancreas. The Zendocrine complex is going to help physically push toxins out of your body. The combo of the two is an unstoppable detox duo. 

Remember that more advanced cleansing protocol I mentioned? Starting to gently detox with both TerraZyme and Zendocrine (I like to take mine in the mornings) will be your first step in building up to that more intense program. 

When I can feel heavy water retention in my body, I will actually take three to four TerraZyme in one day. You can also take more throughout the day if you feel like your body needs an extra toxin push.
